When people talk about Italy, they mention food and architecture in the first sentence of the conversation. That’s true, that Italy has beautiful examples of architecture on every corner of the country. But even when something wasn’t constructed the way it was intended, it’s still a masterpiece, which makes people to appreciate Italian architecture. Imagine, just a bell tower of the cathedral, made a small city of Pisa in Tuscany worldwide famous tourist destination, because of its tilt.
Bell tower or Tower of Pisa was tilting since 12th century, beginning of its construction, due to foundation. There was numerous attempts to restore the structure to the vertical orientation, but they failed. Nowadays we see Leaning Tower of Pisa as a unique work of engineering that brings tourism to the small city. Tower is located on the one of the most finest architectural complexes in the world – the Piazza dei Miracoli. There are four religious sites spread throughout: the Pisa Cathedral, the Pisa Baptistry, the Campanile (Leaning Tower), and the Camposanto Monumentale.
In addition to the tower, the city offers many other interesting things to see worth an entire day. There are few beautiful squares, couple of bridges, numerous cozy streets. Pisa has gorgeous views with mountains in the back and river Arno crossing city right in the middle. I liked to stroll the river banks up and down, enjoying the vibe of the town, to get an italian ice cream (gelato) and to enjoy the crowd passing by. I tried pizza and pasta in the different restaurants in the center of Pisa. It was nothing extraordinary as of Italian cuisine and I found my food salty. Probably the places I chose were not the best.
