The land of perpetual summer: Seychelles X2

After Mahé and Praslin islands I went to La Digue – ultimate paradise destination. It’s a small island located 15 minutes away by ferry from the island of Praslin or one hour and something from the main island of Mahé in Seychelles. La Digue island has a population of only 3,000 people. It is easy to navigate on this island by bicycle (which is the main mean of transportation) or by foot. There are only few cars on the island. Atmosphere here is tranquil. If you are coming to La Digue from a noisy city, you will get the relaxation that you need, the moment you step on this land of perpetual summer.

La Digue is best-known for its beaches, which appear worldwide in the travel magazines and brochures. It’s a home for the best beaches not only in Seychelles, but as well in the world. Beaches like Anse Source d’Argent, Grand Anse, Petite Anse, Anse Cocos and others. Many beaches are untouched by human, hidden in the rocks and tropical jungles, so I had to hike to some of them. Anse Source d’Argent is the most picturesque beach in Seychelles, especially at sunset. Tourist would come from other islands to La Digue just for a day tour, which I see as a mistake, because here there are so many things to see and places to enjoy. I spent 3 full days on La Digue, but I wish I could have spent more days on this paradise island.

I had a walking tour to the most isolated beach on the island – Anse Marron. It took us 2 hours of climbing over the rocks and little caves, hiking through the bushy tropical forest, even walking on the sea. Anse Marron looks like a lagoon, protected from rough waters by offshore granite boulders. It’s a good spot for snorkeling. Of course this beach was empty, all to ourselves. To end the day full of activities is wise with a gorgeous sunset and delicious dinner on the top of the hill in the restaurant Belle Vue. Up from there you can see main village of La Passe on La Digue and from far is visible Praslin island.

One of the best things to do in Seychelles is snorkeling and diving. People would travel the world to come to the islands just for that. Seychelles have coral reefs around its islands. The marine life is very diverse. In the water you might see Bat Fish, colorful Butterfly Fishes, Parrot Fishes, numerous other tropical fish species, as well as Sea Turtles, Dolphins and Whale Sharks. I am not a diver, so I went for a snorkeling tour. It’s a full day trip on the private boat that goes to the islands of Coco, Félicité, Big Sister and Ave Maria. Underwater world is mind blowing. I snorkeled for many hours in the different locations and each time I saw unique fishes and reefs.

I had a lunch on the Big Sister island. Our guide cooked local food, which included fish, curry, chicken and salads. We stayed few hours on this private island. Snorkeling tour was like an eclipse of my journey to the Seychelles islands, so if you are planning to come here, don’t forget to book your excursion. I hope that one day I will visit the Seychelles islands again, because there are so many more things left to discover and to enjoy this paradise land of perpetual summer.
